An outlook on the scope of virtual reality

What is Virtual Reality (VR)?

VR is a technology created by humans who were fed up with the real world and wanted to live in a virtual world 😉

Yeah, it changes the world around you when you wear the VR headset. Virtual world is a computer-based online community environment that is designed and shared by individuals so that they can interact in a custom-built, simulated world. The basic idea of VR was taken from a movie director’s idea and was mostly used to create virtual reality games.

But in the present VR has gone to another level. It is widely used in training people for various jobs, architecture, medicine, military, education, navigation, tourism, exploring a city, customer service and rescue operations.

Using VR for training can save a lot of resources. Doctors can train medical students using a virtual body to perform surgeries etc. In military and training astronauts VR plays a major part. Learning is fun using VR where you can see everything in 3D.

The scope of VR in the future is great as billions of dollars are being dumped on this technology. With the release of Google cardboard and Daydream, mobile based VR is improving at an alarming rate as they are cheap and readily available for use. 6.3 million VR headsets were shipped in the whole of 2016 creating a total revenue of 1.8 billion.

While the companies like Oculus, HTC vive, Absentia and Sony are working on VR products, many Indian startups like InnovReality, Imerse studios, space trek, AutoVRse are working on the technology to create revenue by working with brands. SmartVizX is a startup which provides solutions for the architecture and construction. Top brands have started using Virtual reality for launching their products as it is more interactive.

Tata Motors is planning on launching VR (virtual reality) showrooms which would give would-be buyers a five-dimension experience. First of such showrooms are expected to come up by second half of 2017.

While VR is completely a virtual world AR enhances the real world with virtual elements. The best example for augmented reality is pokemon go which was the viral game of 2016.

There’s another term called mixed reality. Microsoft Hololens is an exciting device built based on mixed reality.

This can be called as a stone age for virtual reality as this technology is improving day by day. Everyone can be a Tony Stark in the future and it is not so far.
